Quality and Environmental Sustainability

Quality is at the heart of everything we do. At Bellia Claudio Farm, we are committed to ensuring that every product meets the highest quality standards, from sowing to delivery. Our farming practices, combined with rigorous control and recognised certifications, ensure fresh, wholesome products.

Certifications

GLOBAL GAP and GRASP Protocol

GLOBAL G.A.P. is a standard for healthy and sustainable food production in use in inter-company trade, and is therefore also a guarantee for the consumer. G.A.P. stands for Good Agricultural Practices.

The GLOBAL G.A.P. standard sets very strict criteria for good agricultural practices that farmers must meet if they want to sell their products to major retailers around the world. Retailers rely on GLOBAL G.A.P certification to ensure that the products they sell to their customers can be traced back to the certified farm or production facility.

The protocol provides for the management of requirements related to:

  • Environmental aspects (site history and management, soil and waste management)
  • Product (pesticides used, irrigation techniques, crop protection, harvest and post-harvest treatments)
  • Health and safety of workers and their working conditions
  • Elements related to business management.

Global GAP

Certification that guarantees that our products are grown according to international food safety and sustainability standards, as an individual producer.

Global GRASP

Certification that attests to the Bellia Claudio farm’s focus on social security practices and the welfare of workers, integrating sustainability.

Protected Geographical Indication products – PGI

The term Protected Geographical Indication, better known by the acronym PGI, denotes a mark of origin that is awarded by the European Union to those agricultural products and foodstuffs for which a certain quality, reputation or other characteristic depends on its geographical origin, and whose production, processing and/or preparation takes place in a defined geographical area.

The European regulation requires compliance with strict production rules laid down in a product specification. Compliance with these rules is guaranteed by a specific control body that carries out periodic checks on certified producers.

Our company produces the following PGI products:

  • Treviso Late Red Radicchio PGI
  • Treviso Early Red Radicchio PGI
  • Castelfranco’s Variegated Radicchio PGI
  • Badoere’s Asparagus PGI

Recognition for Treviso Red Radicchio PGI

Certification that guarantees the cultivation and packaging of Radicchio Rosso di Treviso according to the quality standards of the Protected Geographical Indication.

Recognition for the Asparagus of Badoere PGI

Recognition attesting to the company’s compliance with Badoere’s asparagus cultivation standards, guaranteeing the authenticity and quality of the product.

Innovation and sustainability

  • Processes and Quality Control

We use innovative and sustainable agricultural practices to ensure the quality of our products. Every stage of production, from land preparation to harvest, is carefully monitored by our experts to ensure that the products meet our high standards.

  • Collaboration and Support

We collaborate with small, local companies to ensure consistent, quality production. Each member of our family personally supervises each stage of production for a two-fold cause: to support each partner in all stages of production and to ensure that the products meet our standards.

  • Reuse of waste products

In partnership with Green Pastures, we use natural fertilisers derived from the reuse of waste products, allowing us to significantly reduce the use of chemical fertilisers, improving soil health and promoting healthy and sustainable crop growth. Natural fertilisers also maintain soil biodiversity, essential for resilient agriculture.

  • Water saving

To optimise the use of water resources, we use targeted irrigation systems, reducing water wastage and ensuring that each plant receives the right amount of moisture. This method not only conserves water, but also improves the quality of our crops.

  • We look to the future with commitment

We are planning to install photovoltaic panels to further increase our energy efficiency. This project will enable us to harness solar energy, further reducing our dependence on non-renewable energy sources and lowering our CO2 emissions.

Production system

Every phase of the production chain of Bellia Claudio products takes place according to techniques that respect the environment with stringent standards.
Frequent chemical analyses of the company’s soils and irrigation water allow us to plan the entire crop management process in the most effective and sustainable way: macronutrient supply, tillage, irrigation, crop rotations and fertiliser distributions.

The soils are carefully selected by our technicians, who, through specific analyses and monitoring, choose the most suitable soil for each product, for example, preferring loamy soils for radicchios, which contain more nutrients, moisture and humus than other types of soil, and have an excellent capacity for retaining water, while draining excess water.

Mechanical machinery is only used when indispensable, and fertilisation takes place with natural products, through the use of manure or green manure plants such as mustard. Monitoring the fertility of the farm’s soils allows us to organise targeted interventions, avoiding waste.

Plant protection products are used very sparingly; we work a lot on prevention,
for example by using natural extracts that keep pests away, the need for intervention is greatly reduced, and where it is really necessary, the use of natural antagonists is preferred.

Considerable attention is paid to the ecological value of soils, with irrigation methods that prevent the occurrence of fungal diseases. In addition, our irrigation techniques increase efficiency exponentially, definitely limiting the use of water. For example, the use of the drip line system, made from recyclable materials, has allowed us to reduce water consumption by 70%, as well as reducing the consumption of the machinery that pumps water, which with this system works at a minimum.

The final processing of the vegetables and packaging takes place in the company’s centre in Scorzè according to a specific and specialised layout, in compliance with the sanitary regulations of food hygiene and processing premises. The storage, processing and packaging phases are carried out with a focus on saving resources such as water and electricity. Many operations are also carried out by hand, so that product care is maximised.

Bellia Claudio products are packaged in special packaging designed to enhance their value and maintain our philosophy of using recyclable materials for individual packages and packaging with reuse systems for transport.
In the past year, more than 70% of the packaging that has left our company is packaging with reuse systems, and the share of packaging made of recycled and recyclable material is growing.
The frequent residual analyses carried out on our vegetables have rewarded our production system, always presenting zero values in every item.
